Welcome to CamasNet.Com.
If you are having problems please use the helpdesk and FAQ pages at left.
CamasNET Inc., was formed in the spring of 1996 to provide local
access
to the Internet for 5 sparsely-populated local dialing
areas centered around the
towns of Elk City, Nezperce, Kamiah,
Grangeville and Riggins. At this time there
were not any commercial
Internet Service Providers willing to invest the funds for
the phone
lines and equipment necessary to provide local access in this area.
The
project and Corporation were initially funded with a federal grant from
the
US Department of Commerce through a Telecommunications Information
Infrastructure Assistance Program, and administered by Lewis Clark State
College.
Meetings were held in the 5 communities to make initial contact
with interested
parties and to determine feasibility of such a project.
Volunteers from the
these communities met and determined that it was a
viable project.
