Located on Hwy 14's scenic drive along the South Fork of the Clearwater. Golden is an old gold mining community. The Lone Pine mine operated continuously until World War II. When it and other nearby mines shut down, Golden began to fade away. The hotel burned about 1950, and very little remains now to show that a booming little mining town once existed.
